How to Reach Darwa Pass?

By Road:

You first need to reach Uttarkashi town, which is well connected by road to major cities like Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Haridwar.

  • From Dehradun to Uttarkashi: Around 150 km (6–7 hours)
  • From Rishikesh to Uttarkashi: Around 170 km (6–7 hours)

From Uttarkashi, you can drive to either Barsu Village or Raithal Village, which are the base villages for the Dayara Bugyal trek. Both are roughly 35–40 km from Uttarkashi.

By Train:

The nearest railway stations are:

  • Dehradun Railway Station (150 km away)
  • Haridwar Railway Station (170 km away)

From the station, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Uttarkashi and then continue to the base village.

By Air:

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun), around 200 km from Barsu or Raithal. After landing, take a taxi or bus to Uttarkashi.

Trekking Route to Darwa Pass

The journey to Darwa Pass typically starts from either Barsu or Raithal, both of which are small, peaceful villages surrounded by forests and mountains.

Route Highlights:

  • Day 1: Drive from Dehradun/Haridwar to Raithal/Barsu
  • Day 2: Trek from Barsu/Raithal to Dayara Bugyal (7–9 km)
  • Day 3: Trek from Dayara Bugyal to Darwa Pass (9–10 km, steep climb)
  • Day 4: Return the same way or continue to Dodital if doing a longer trek

You can camp at Dayara Bugyal and make a day trip to Darwa Pass and return. The path from Dayara to Darwa is quite steep and passes through thick oak and rhododendron forests before opening up to alpine meadows and snow patches.

  • Summer (May to June): The snow starts melting, and the trail becomes accessible. Wildflowers bloom, and weather is pleasant.

  • Monsoon (July to August): Trails are slippery and prone to landslides.
  • Winter (December to March): Heavy snowfall blocks the trail, and it becomes dangerous without advanced gear and experience.
