The Panch Kedar are five sacred shrines of Lord Shiva, located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India. Each shrine is associated with a part of Shiva's body, as per legend, when he transformed into a bull to evade the Pandavas after the Kurukshetra war. Here's a brief description:

  1. Kedarnath - The most famous, situated at an altitude of about 3,583 meters. It represents Shiva's hump and is adorned with gold and silver ornamentation. The temple is open only from late April to early November due to heavy snowfall.
  2. TungnathAt around 3,680 meters, it's the highest Shiva temple in the world and represents Shiva's arms. It's accessible by a trek from Chopta.
  3. Rudranath - Located at 3,559 meters, this shrine symbolises Shiva's face. It's the most remote of the Panch Kedar and involves a tough trek through dense forests.
  4. Madhyamaheshwar - Situated at 3,490 meters, it represents Shiva's navel. The temple is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and is reached after a trek from the village of Ransi.
  5. Kalpeswar - The lowest in altitude at about 2,200 meters, it represents Shiva's hair (jata). It's unique as it also includes a shrine for the five Pandavas and Draupadi.
