How to Reach Niti Valley

Reaching Niti Valley requires a combination of road journey and sometimes short treks. Since the valley is located in a restricted border area, travellers also need an Inner Line Permit from the local authorities at Joshimath.

• By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, about 315 km away from Joshimath. From the airport, one can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Joshimath and then continue towards Niti Valley.
• By Train: The nearest railway station is Rishikesh, around 295 km from Joshimath. From Rishikesh, buses and taxis are available for Joshimath.
• By Road: Joshimath is the main base point to reach Niti Valley. It is well connected by road to Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Haridwar. From Joshimath, the road continues towards Malari and finally to Niti Village. This stretch is about 70 km long and passes through steep mountain roads, making the journey adventurous and scenic.
• Trekking Routes: From Niti village, several trekking routes go further towards the border regions, glaciers, and mountain passes. However, these treks require special permission and guides.

Best Time to Visit Niti Valley

The best time to visit Niti Valley is from May to October. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the valley remains open for travellers.

• Summer (May – June): The snow begins to melt, and the valley becomes full of greenery. Flowers start blooming, and the weather is cool but comfortable. It is the best season for sightseeing and trekking.
• Monsoon (July – September): The region receives heavy rainfall, which can cause landslides and roadblocks. Trekking is not recommended during this period, but the valley looks fresh and green.

• Winter (November – April): The valley remains closed due to heavy snowfall. Villagers also migrate to lower regions during this time, and access is restricted.
