Bageshwar - The land of Shiva is situated at an elevation of 1004 meters with several famous temples dedicated to Gods and Goddesses. Bageshwar is a town and a municipal board in Bageshwar district in the state of Uttarakhand. Bageshwar city is named after the Bagnath Temple. The place is located at a distance of 470 km from the National Capital New Delhi and 332 km from the State Capital Dehradun. Bageshwar city is known for its glaciers, rivers, temples and scenic environment.

The city is situated on the confluence of rivers Saryu and Gomati. It is surrounded by the mountains of Bhileshwar and Nileshwar to its east and west and by the Suraj Kund in the north and Agni Kund in the south. The city has important religious, historic and political significance and is visited by devotees in large numbers.

Zero Point / Pindari Glacier

Pindari Glacier is situated in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. Pindari Glacier lies on the edge of Nanda Devi, which is the highest peak in India. ZERO POINT (PINDARI GLACIER) TREK is very famous amongst trekkers for trekking all around the world. It is situated in Pindari Valley at an elevation of 3660 m to the southeast of Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot Mountains. Pindari Glacier is a favorite of mountaineers and trekkers as it is one of the most easily accessible Himalayan glaciers in the region.

Pandusthal

Pandusthal is a long trek of around 20 km and it is believed to be the place where the war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas took place.

The place offers one of the most beautiful views of the Himalayas. For trekking on Pandusthal one has to reach Baisani from Bageshwar. Baisani is 25 km far from Bageshwar and one needs to begin his walk from Baisani which is around 15 km. The distance may be covered in a day or one can stay overnight to do sightseeing of the surroundings and return back the next day.

Baijnath Temple

The Baijnath Temple was constructed during the 12th century and it is situated at a distance of 26 km from Bageshwar on the bank of river Gomti. It is believed that the marriage of lord Shiva and Parvati took place here at the confluence of river Garur Ganga and river Gomti. People also believe and claim that the temple will never get damaged by any earthquake. It is a magnificent monument and the ancient temples like the Baijnath Temple and Bhagwati Mata Temple of the place witness about that era.

Bagnath temple

Bagnath temple is an ancient temple of the 14th century. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is one of the main attractions of Bageshwar. The festivals like Shivratri and Makar Sankranti are celebrated here with great enthusiasm. It is believed that the temple is named after an incident in which a famous sage Markandeya was visited by Lord Shiva in the form of a tiger. The word Bagnath is formed by combining the Hindi words ‘bagh’ (tiger) and ‘nath’ (lord) - "Tiger Lord". It is also believed that lord Shiva meditated in Bagnath. Devotees from all over the country visit this temple in large numbers during the festivals of Shivratri and Makar Sankranti, when celebrations are organized by the temple authorities.

Bigul

Bigul is a small village in Bageshwar district offering amazing views of the Himalayas including the Nanda Devi and Panchachuli peaks. Bigul is a form of instrument used for announcements by the Britishers to gather nearby villagers and collect taxes from them. The place is around 32 km away from Bageshwar City.

Vijaypur

Vijaypur is located around 30 km away from Bageshwar City. It is a popular tourist destination for visitors to enjoy the overall view of the place and to feel relaxed from their daily routine. Gauri Udiyar

Kanda

Kanda is situated at the confluence of three rivers, Saryu, Gomti, and Bhagirathi. It is 25 kilometers away from Bageshwar City. Kanda is a pious land associated with Lord Sadashiva and believes to be the redeemer of all sins. According to older native residents, it is believed that the word Kanda is derived from the surname of earlier residents in the region, who are knowns as Kanyal. Kanda has a bunch of 54 villages around it.

It is a place in the lap of the Himalayas covered with clouds and greenery all around. Bageshwar has got pleasant weather during most time of the year and can be visited any time.

Summer is pleasant with soothing lush greenery and keeps the temperature usually between 18°C to 23°C. This summer season continues between March and June.
