The two most important pilgrimages in India (Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib) are located in Chamoli district. It has eye-catching spots with snow-clad, high mountains, and dense forests around it. The Gopeshwar city's night view from Chamoli is a beautiful sight to witness.

Auli is known as the Switzerland of India and the place is quite famous among regular visitors. Chamoli is also known for its scenic villages, valleys of flowers, and the rich culture of the Garhwal region.

Places To Visit In Chamoli

Badrinath

Badrinath temple is a famous and sacred Hindu religion worship place situated at an elevation of 3133 m on the Garhwal hill track. It is a part of Char Dham yatra and is based near the Alaknanda river. Badrinath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and operates between April to November of each year. It is visited by Hindu pilgrims in large numbers during this time.

Nanda Prayag

It is one of the Panch Prayags (five Sangams) of the Alaknanda River which meets with the Nandakini river in Nanda Prayag. The famous temple dedicated to Lord Krishna also known as 'Gopalji Temple' is also situated here.

Karna Prayag

Karnaprayag is the Junction of Alaknanda and Pindari Rivers. This holy town is situated at an elevation of 1,451 meters above sea level and is known as ‘The City of Karna of Mahabharata’. The place has abundant natural beauty and water spots to attract visitors towards it

Hemkund Sahib

Hemkund Sahib is a sacred pilgrimage site for the Sikhs. The place is situated at a height of 4,633 m in the snow covered mountains and is the highest Gurudwara in the world. Hemkund Sahib is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh (the tenth Guru of Sikhs). It became extremely difficult to reach the place during winter time due to heavy snowfall. Usually May to October is the best time to visit Hemkund Sahib.

Joshimath / Jyotirmath

Joshimath is also known as ‘Jyotirmath’ (the place of Jyotirlinga of Shiva) is located in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. The place is situated at an altitude of 1875 meters. It is loved by the adventure lover and is open to several sports like Himalayan mountain climbing & trekking. It is also considered as the stoppage point for trekkers, who are on their mountain climbing expedition to the scenic trails and pilgrim centers such as Badrinath.

Auli

Auli is a famous hill station in Chamoli district in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. It is a popular winter destination and famous for its world-class skiing experiences and other winter sports. Auli has everything that a visitor dreams of like Mountain Views, grasslands, adventure & sports, romantic views, and many more.

Auli is also known as Auli Bugyal which means "grassland" in Garhwali. Auli is located at an elevation of 2,800 meters above sea level. Surrounded with snow-covered peaks to wooden huts, Auli seems like a perfect European village. Auli can give its visitors the experience of a lifetime.

Valley of Flowers National Park

The Valley of Flowers National Park is spread over an area of 87 sq km in the Chamoli district. The Valley of Flowers National Park is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is believed to be a heaven on Earth bestowed with rare and exotic Himalayan flowers and goes through dense forests, along with the Pushpawati river. One needs to cross many bridges, streams, waterfalls and glaciers on its way to reach the valley. The valley of Flowers has exotic flowers like orchids, poppies, primulas, marigolds, and daisies (over 600 different species of flowers) in its lap.

Chamoli city has got no airport of its own and the nearest airport is around 220 km away i.e. Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.

Railway

The nearest railway station is in Rishikesh and it is situated at a distance of around 200 km. It has a well-connected network with major destinations in the country.

Roads

As Chamoli has got no airport or railway station still, it has good road connectivity with the major cities to connect it to the other parts of the country. Buses operate from ISBT (Kashmiri Gate - New Delhi) to Rishikesh and Srinagar, from where Chamoli can be visited via another bus or private taxi, or car. The nearest bus stands for Chamoli is at Pauri, Rishikesh, Uttarkashi & Gopeshwar. Public transport and taxis are easily available from here.

The climate in Chamoli stays quite pleasant throughout the year, which attracts visitors to Chamoli round the year. The best time to visit the Chamoli region is during the winter season between October and March. During this time Chamoli has got the best to offer to its visitors.
